ABOUT FUTURESPORE
Futurespore is a software development and internet publishing project intended as a platform for promoting Solarpunk-inspired living in the modern, digital world.
WHAT IS SOLARPUNK?
AS ABOVE, SO BELOW
In the 2nd or 3rd century CE, the Emerald Tablet was written by ancient Hermetic alchemists stating "That which is below is like that which is above, and that which is above is like that which is below, to accomplish the miracles of one thing."
The principle of "As Above, So Below" has been used to investigate the truths of the universe and support self-inquiry, that through observing patterns in the microcosm, one could make discoveries in the macrocosm, and vice versa. We can observe this phenomenon in network structures both in nature and man made.
In nature, mycologists have discovered that mycelium, or the fruiting body of fungi which develops as a complex web of intelligent fibers, acts as a neural web, forming the relationships that exist between plant life forms via electrical signals. This structure is similar to how animal brains and nervous systems have evolved to transmit electrical signals between organs and organ systems.
Similarly, we exist as part of a food web, and our relationships to each other in our communities and countries take the form of a web. We've even invented our own means of electrical communication with the Internet, also known as the World Wide Web, an electrical communication structure that allows us to interact seamlessly with family and friends across the world.
Futurespore exists as a node, a meme, an idea, a spore in the digital realm—to colonize, incubate, and spread Solarpunk concepts across the Internet.
BEHIND THE SCREEN
E. Silkweaver
Founder | Software Developer, AI Engineer, Horticulturalist, Herbalist
"To change or make any impact on the system we live in, you must first upgrade or create the software for it to exist within."
E is a software developer and agriculture technologist with over ten years of experience building digital platforms and five years of hands-on study in horticulture and agriculture. She founded Futurespore after noticing a growing disconnect between people and the natural systems that sustain them — and seeing an opportunity to use technology to bridge that gap.
Futurespore is her effort to make practical botanical knowledge — foraging, herbalism, regenerative gardening — accessible to a wider audience through well-designed software and educational content. The goal is straightforward: increase ecological and agricultural literacy at scale, and build tools that help people engage with the natural world in meaningful ways.
